Contact and applications
Contact Halal Community Council, or apply to be checked
One quiet, serious front door to reach the Council.
This page is for a few clear things. Businesses can begin an application to be checked for the seal and membership. Community members can look up a place, send questions or suggestions, or ask us to check a place. Anyone can raise a serious concern for the Council to review.
We cannot promise to act on every request, but we can promise to treat your words with care, to look for patterns, and to be honest about what is in our scope.
Structured ways to reach us
Whether you are sending a concern, a suggestion, or an application, the same principle applies: clear words and steady follow up.
We prefer fewer messages that matter to many over many messages that do not lead to change.
Find your path
Which path fits what you need
Contact details for every path are here. Pick the one closest to what you need. If you choose the wrong one, we will pass your message to the right place.
-
Check a place
Look up a place or a seal
You do not need to write to us. Search the Register by name and city, enter the record number printed on a seal at Verify, or scan the QR code on a decal. Every record shows the level, the date of the check and what it covers.
-
For businesses
Apply to be checked
For owners or authorized representatives of a food business that wants the seal and membership. Pick a level, give your details and consents, and pay in full when you apply.
-
Something feels wrong
Raise a concern
A private form for a pattern or incident that affects trust, including a seal shown where it should not be. Concerns are never published, and without your permission we never name you to the business.
-
Questions and suggestions
Contact the Council
Ask about the seal, the Council, regions, or future work, comment on the Standard, ask about HCC Services, or share an idea. Use the message form on this page.
-
Ask us to check a place
Suggest a place
Tell us its name and city with the ask us to check a place form. HCC can only check a business that applies, so a suggestion is an invitation, never a judgment of the place. We never tell the business who asked, and we keep the list private.
-
Your information
Privacy requests
To see, correct or delete what HCC holds about you, or to ask how it is used, write to [email protected]. We reply within 30 days, usually sooner, and there is no charge.
-
A problem inside HCC
Report a concern about HCC itself
A check done wrongly, a hidden tie, pressure on a reviewer, a seal offered with something else, or a misuse of money. This line opens when HCC's independent directors are seated, before the first check. HCC does not allow retaliation against anyone who reports in good faith.
-
Already working with HCC
Use your business portal
If your business has applied or carries the seal, your portal is the fastest way to reach the people handling your check, record, renewal or case. You can report a change, upload documents privately and answer a case there.
-
Not open in your state yet
Tell me when HCC opens near me
HCC is not checking in New York and New Jersey yet, and Canada and Mexico come later. Leave your email and your state, and we will write when HCC opens there. We keep only your email address, the state and the date.
Two audiences
Businesses and community members start in different places
If you represent a business
Use the membership application if you are a serious business that wants to be considered for Halal Community Council membership and the seal. This is the right path if:
- You serve or plan to serve halal conscious customers and want to do that responsibly.
- You are ready for clear expectations and two way communication, not just a logo file.
- You understand that approval is not automatic and comes from a check, which may include follow up questions or a "not yet" decision with a written list of what to fix.
If you are a community member
Use the contact and concern paths if you are a Muslim or halal conscious person who wants to share something with us. For example:
- You have a question about what the seal means or how to use it in your daily life.
- You want to share a concern or pattern you have noticed at a business with the seal, or at a business without it that uses halal language.
- You have a suggestion about regions, types of businesses, or ways the Council could be more useful.
Three kinds of message
Inquiries, questions, and concerns
Membership inquiries
"Could our business qualify?"
If your primary question is "Could our business qualify" or "What would it look like for us to carry the seal," the membership application is the best starting point. It gives us enough context to respond in a meaningful way, and it starts the check.
We prefer structured information so we can treat every business fairly and avoid missing important details. If you want to know first what the check looks for, read the Standard, or ask about a readiness review through HCC Services.
Questions and suggestions
Calm curiosity is welcome
Use the general contact path if you want to ask about the seal, the Council, regions, or future work. You do not need to have a complaint. Calm curiosity and practical ideas are welcome.
This is a good place to share how the seal feels on the ground or what would make it more useful to you.
Concerns and problems
When trust is strained
Use the concern path if you need to tell us about a pattern or incident that affects trust. This may involve a business with the seal, a business without it using halal language, or a broader issue you believe we should know.
Calm, specific descriptions are more useful than angry messages. You do not need to attach evidence in order to be heard.
For businesses
Apply to be checked for the seal and membership
This path is for owners or authorized representatives of businesses that want to be considered for membership. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval. It begins a careful check based on the published Standard, at the level you choose: Cornerstone, Pillar or Keystone.
Please answer honestly and in detail. If there are questions that do not fit your exact situation, use the notes area to explain. It is better to be clear than to try to fit into an assumption. You can review the Standard at any time before you apply.
- You pay in full when you apply: the $150 application fee for each location plus the first year of dues for your level ($650, $1,147 or $2,147 in all). If the check does not pass, your dues are refunded within 10 days.
- You give the consents every check needs: publication of your record, and announced recording and photographs during the visit.
- Applications are not open yet.
For everyone
Contact the Council, or raise a concern
Both questions and concerns matter. Questions and suggestions help shape where we focus next. Concerns help us see where trust is being strained or harmed. We keep separate paths to reflect that the tone and handling may be different. You do not have to choose perfect language. Start with what you saw, felt, or need help understanding.
Questions and suggestions
Contact the Council
Use this path for questions, suggestions, and general input that does not involve a specific incident. You can ask about what the seal means, suggest regions or business types to focus on, suggest a place for HCC to check, comment on the Standard, or share how the Council feels from where you live. Calm, practical ideas are especially welcome.
We may not be able to reply to each message individually, but we do read and consider what you share.
Concerns and problems
Raise a concern or problem
Use the concern form when you need to tell us about a pattern or incident that affects trust. Describe what happened in simple, concrete terms. Include the city, type of business, and roughly when it took place if you can. You do not need to share names of private individuals if that makes you uncomfortable.
Not every concern will lead to visible action, but repeated patterns matter. Your report may help us see what is happening on the ground. Please use the form rather than email for a concern, so it goes straight into HCC's private case system.
Ask HCC to check a place
Know a restaurant, market, butcher, caterer or bakery you would like HCC to check? Tell us where it is. HCC checks a business only after it applies, so we may invite it to apply; whether it does is its own choice.
Your request is private. It is never published, and we never tell the business who asked. We do not ask your name.
Your words, handled with care
How we handle what you share with us
Trust is not only about badges, seals and storefronts. It is also about what happens to your words when you reach out. We treat your messages as sensitive, especially when they mention specific places or situations.
- We do not publish your name or contact details without your clear permission. Concerns themselves are never published.
- We may summarize patterns of feedback without attaching them to individuals.
- When we follow up with a business, we focus on the substance of concerns, not on who sent them. Without your permission, we never name you to the business.
- If a situation is outside our scope, we will say so rather than pretend we can handle it.
- The concern form does not send what you write to an artificial intelligence service, so please use the form rather than email for a concern.
If you are unsure whether to send something, you can still write to us. It is acceptable to say that you are not ready to share every detail yet. Calm, honest communication is welcome, even when it is incomplete.
Looking for a place? Start with the Register.
Most questions about a place are answered by its record: the level, the date, and what the check covers.
